Course description
Research shows that gender based violence and abuse disproportionately affects adults with care and support needs, including disabled people, people with mental ill-health, older people and people with problematic substance use issues.
This course explores the links between gender based violence and abuse and people with care and support needs. It looks at the implications of the Care Act in the context of gender based violence and will help participants to identify survivors’ rights under the Act and the duties of local authorities and other service providers. The course includes how to respond appropriately to disclosures of abuse and what support and interventions are available for survivors. Delegates will also learn about risk, harm and resilience.
Participants will gain knowledge on the links between DVA and those with care support needs, as well as what support and interventions can be effective with individuals experiencing these issues. Who should attend?
This course is open to any professional working with those experiencing domestic violence with wider support needs including older people, mental health, substance use or disability. It equates to 5 hours of CPD.
