Creating Trauma Informed Services

Course description


Creating trauma informed services involves understanding, recognising and responding to the effects of trauma. It also emphasises the physical, psychological and emotional safety of survivors and practitioners, and helps survivors rebuild a sense of control and empowerment. This course will give you the knowledge and tools to introduce a trauma informed approach to your service.


Learning Objectives:








  • To understand what a trauma informed environment is and why adopting a trauma informed approach is appropriate when addressing in gender based violence and abuse.

  • To understand the relationship between violence, abuse and trauma.

  • To explore ways we can improve our safety and support planning including understanding how to make change.

  • To think about how our experiences of working with trauma impact on working practice and what can we to manage this.

  • To understand what secondary or vicarious trauma is and to explore strategies for self-care.

  • To know how to design services in order to implement a trauma informed approach.

  • To take away practical, adaptable tools that will enable your organisation to improve policy and practice.
