Background
There is an increasing international focus on the need to address modern day slavery. An inter-departmental ministerial group on human trafficking has acknowledged the need to raise the skills and improve the training of frontline professionals. Employers have identified a critical need to develop NOS to improve the skills, knowledge and competence of the workforce in this area. NOS will support training and development across a range of services (private, public and voluntary), improving inter-operability across the sector. In turn this has the effect of improving support received by victims and improving the conviction rates for these crimes. There are currently no specific NOS that meet the needs of the whole workforce effectively. This project has been initiated to develop up to six new NOS to capture and share the skills and knowledge required of workers in areas such as:
How you can help
With the support of the Home Office, Skills for Justice are due to embark on a project to develop new NOS for workers involved in addressing modern day slavery. We are looking for individuals and organisations with a remit and expertise in this area to be involved in this piece of work. Anticipated involvement would be one or two London-based working groups plus a small amount of reading and commenting on drafted standards. Assistance with consultation dissemination will also be sought. 'Virtual' involvement is possible.
The first working group meeting is planned for Wed 30th July in central London.
